Surfing Only No additional activities.

No Surfing. Choose an activity from B,C and E .

*Prices quoted are per child and only apply to groups of 25 and over. (A cost of € 35.00 per child applies to groups with 24 or less).

ON FULL DAY PROGRAMMES BEACH SAFETY WILL BE OFFERED AS PART OF LUNCHTIME SUPERVISION.

A. SURFING

Lesson in waist depth of water. Land and water-based instruction. Soft learning Surf boards and Bodyboards along with wetsuits are provided. Teachers do NOT have to accompany groups into the water but are welcome to do so.

B. ENVIRONMENTAL BEACH DISCOVERY

compiled by Eanna Ni Lamhna for Oceanics and further developed by Field Ecologist, Grace O'Sullivan, this guided environmental and ecological walk allows students become Beach Detectives as they explore the uniqueness of Tramore's Sand Dunes and Saltmarsh Habitats. (1 Teacher to 20 students is required to accompany group).

C. ROCKPOOL EXPLORATION

Curriculum linked by Alan Walsh, this exploration of Tramore's Rocky Shoreline allows students to become Rockpool Explorers as they peer into the many varied tidal habitats and natural touch pools with their guide(s). N.B. Only certain dates and times will be available due to tidal differences. (1 Teacher to 20 students is required to accompany group).

D. BEACHCOMBING CREATIVE WORKSHOP

Students will recycle, reduce and reuse the flotsam and jetsam of the seashore to create and design a memento of their Oceanics Experience.

E. FIELD STUDIES - An Exciting study of crabs and they're habitat

Students will catch different species of live crabs, measure water salinity, measure air temperature, and learn about their biology and survival in their communities.

MIX and Match

If you want to combine your visit to Oceanics with another visitor attraction, we can organise this for you. Tramore Amusement Park, Splashworld, Coppercoast Mini Farm or Run Amuck all within easy reach of the School. Alternatively you could visit Waterford Christ Church Cathedral, Waterford Crystal or Waterford Treasures Museum.

WHAT TO BRING WHEN VISITING OCEANICS

For Water Activities:
Togs, Towel, Sunscreen.
For Walkers:
Sunscreen, Hat, Light Rain Jacket, Runners, Change of Clothing (optional).
For Rockpools:
Change of Clothing, Towel, Old Runners/Wellies, Sunscreen, Hat and Light Rain Jacket.
Packed Lunch Advice:
2 Drinks (one water), sandwich x 2, fruit and sweets/crisps according to school policy. Please remind students to bring inhalers where necessary.

TYPICAL DAY (sample)

10.00 am
Arrive in Oceanics. Welcomed by Instructors.
10.15 am
All students will gather on the deck for a safety talk. Children sized, given wetsuits. Change into wetsuits in allocated changing areas
10.30 am
Back on deck for land-based instruction. (A good time for photos). 15 minute lesson and it's time to hit the waves!
12.20 pm
Back at base, rinse off, supervised lunch time with short sea-safety lecture.
12.50 pm
Introduction to guide(s) and prepare for walk (sun tan lotion/ rain gear, drinks etc)
1.00pm
Depart base for the sandy seashore and become Beach Detectives or Rockpool Explorers.
3.00 pm
Back to bus, tired but exhilarated!!!

(In the example above, surfing takes place before other activities but the reverse may be the case and is at the discretion of the instructors.)
