Outdoor Classroom, Ecology Curriculum

Back

Overview

Curriculum Based Field Trips, these field explorations will boost the students understanding of Ecology and its everyday application. They will encounter plants and animals in a variety of habitats as they explore and study one or more of the different ecosystems i.e. Sand Dunes, Salt Marsh, Inter-tidal Mud Flats/Sand Flats, Shingle Embankments and Rock Pools. The Sand Dunes are well developed and contain several habitats listed on Annex 1 of the EU Habitats Directive. The Salt marsh is fairly extensive. It is the Lagoon type of Salt marsh which is the rarest type in Ireland. The area is a special area of conservation. Ecological definitions such as; nutrient recycling, food chains/webs, competition, predation and pollution/human impact on habitats and ecosystems, will be used as students explore the various habitat(s).
