Surfing Activities:

Surfing Lesson

Learn about wave formation and how to harness the energy to ride the Ocean Waves. An educational based surfing lesson with qualified and experienced instructors, including land and water based instruction and beach safety, includes westuit, booties, foam board (gloves and helmets in the Winter, 2 hours from €20 per person.

Surfing Certificate Courses

Choose an option to suit your group size - timetable or itinerary. Option C along with our summer surf camps have been used by Irish students for the An Gaisce - Presidents Award Ireland and for our Overseas students for the GCSE Practical Grade.

Option A.

An Oceanic's Introductory Surf and Sea Safety Certificate.

Surfing lesson with qualified and experienced instructors, land and water based instruction, provision of wetsuit, booties, foam boards, etc. Sea safety awareness with RNLI Helmsman.

Certificate of completion presented to participantss.

Time:
1/2 Day (3 Hours).

Option B.

An Oceanic's Beginner's Surf and Sea Safety Certificate

Course includes all Option A plus:

  • Basic beach safety
  • Surf awareness
  • Weather forecasting and wave prediction
  • Surf etiquette
  • How to get to your feet i.e. The 'Pop Up'
  • Turning left and right on a wave
  • Evasive action
  • Surf board and wetsuit maintenance

Certificate of completion presented to participants.

Full day (5 hours),"For those that want to surf all day."

Time:
Day trip 5hrs or two half days (2 x 2½hr sessios)

Option C.

An Oceanics Intensive Surf and Sea Safety Certificate

Course includes all the above plus:

  • Progressive Surfing Techniques
  • Paddling
  • Getting to feet
  • Bottom Turn
  • Trimline
Time:
2 Days (8 Hours) - Usually with an overnight stay or book 4 x 2 hour half days
Cost
From €80 per person

Option D.

An ISA Whitewater Certificate Award

The Irish Surfing Assoctiation's Surf Skills Awards have been designed to facilitate persons to learn to surf and improve their surfing in a safe and fun environment.

This simple pathway takes you from catching and riding your first whitewater wave to completing all your basic manoeuvres on green-water. This programme enables you and your instructor to track your surfing progression through 6 levels.

Each award includes surfing practice and theory, Levels 1 to 6 available

2 Hours.

Option D.

Beach Activities

2 hours, minimum 16 persons, Cost from €15 per person

Discovering the Seashore is an adventure for children of all ages. We offer two 2 hour long Beach Hikes from which to choose from:

A. ENVIRONMENTAL BEACH DISCOVERY

Compiled by Eanna Ni Lamhna for Oceanics and further developed by Field Ecologist, Grace O'Sullivan, this guided environmental and ecological sea-shore walk allows students become Beach Detectives as they explore the uniqueness of Tramore's Sand Dunes and Saltmarsh areas. (1 Supervisor to 20 persons is required to accompany group).
Quiz-sheet available on return to surf school base.

B. ROCKPOOL EXPLORATION

Curriculum linked by Alan Walsh, this exploration of Tramore's Rocky Shoreline allows persons to become Rockpool Explorers as they peer into the many varied tidal habitats and natural touch pools with their guide(s). N.B. Only certain dates and times will be available due to tidal differences. (1 Supervisor to 20 students is required to accompany group).

Oceans of fun for everyone, combined with surfing is ideal for groups wishing to spend the day on the beach!

School Completition Groups / Summer Projects

Where youth groups have small numbers we offer restricted 2 hour Surf Lessons where a small group can book a time slot just for their group only. Certificated courses can also be booked for these group sizes.
